Sympathy for the Underdog

A yakuza boss tries to hold his ground as rival gangs close in and old codes stop meaning much in a changing criminal world. What starts as a struggle over territory turns into a wider street war, with shifting alliances, betrayals, and reprisals pushing every move toward more violence. The pressure does not come from one enemy alone; police attention, internal splits, and ambitious challengers leave little room for loyalty to survive untouched. Directed by Kinji Fukasaku, the film follows men who treat honor as a rule worth defending even as the underworld around them turns ruthless. Kōji Tsuruta and Noboru Ando are at the center of that fight.
