Marianne & Juliane
Drama106 min
West Germany, 1968: two priest’s daughters push for social change by opposite means. Jutta Lampe’s Juliane works as a reporter, arguing within public debate, while Marianne (Barbara Sukowa) joins a militant organization. When Marianne is arrested and held in isolation, Juliane becomes her last link to the outside world, torn between political disagreement, family loyalty, and growing alarm at how the authorities are treating her sister. As protests and state violence give way to the Years of Lead, the sisters’ shared past and divided convictions turn a national crisis into an intimate one.
