The Last Laugh

Drama91 min

At a grand hotel, an aging doorman takes fierce pride in the uniform that gives him status and purpose. When he is judged too old for the job and reassigned to the washroom, the blow reaches far beyond his paycheck. Humiliation follows him home, where neighbors and family have treated his position as a badge of honor, and he struggles to hide what has happened. As his standing collapses, the film stays close to his fear, shame, and desperation, turning a workplace demotion into a crisis of identity. Emil Jannings carries the story as a man watching the role that defines him slip away.
