The Blue Angel

DramaRomance108 min

When strict schoolteacher Immanuel Rath heads to the cabaret called The Blue Angel to catch his students misbehaving, he becomes fixated on the club’s singer, Lola Lola. Emil Jannings is Rath, a prim professor whose disciplinary errand turns into an affair that upends his place at the school. Opposite him, Marlene Dietrich’s Lola is flirtatious, amused, and always performing, whether onstage or off. The film moves between classroom order and cabaret spectacle as Rath follows her into a marriage he understands far less than he imagined.
