Goodbye, Mr. Chips

DramaRomance114 min

At an English boys’ school, shy young teacher Arthur Chipping spends decades growing into the figure students and colleagues come to know as Mr. Chips. Robert Donat is Chipping, first uneasy in the classroom and later the steady headmaster of Brookfield, as the story follows him from the late 19th century into the early 20th. Greer Garson’s Katherine enters his carefully ordered life with warmth and confidence, and their marriage helps shape both the man and the schoolmaster he becomes. Around him, Brookfield’s rituals, manners, and passing generations mark the years.
