That Hamilton Woman
DramaRomanceWar128 min
Vivien Leigh is Emma Hamilton, a former dance-hall girl and courtesan whose marriage to Sir William Hamilton carries her into diplomatic society in Naples during the Napoleonic Wars. There she becomes entwined with Britain’s famed naval commander, and Laurence Olivier’s Horatio Nelson turns a public alliance into a private scandal. Moving between aristocratic salons and wartime upheaval, the film traces Emma’s ascent to Lady Hamilton as her life becomes bound up with Nelson, national duty, and the glare surrounding one of Britain’s most talked-about affairs.
