In London, a flower seller with a rough Cockney accent becomes the subject of an upper-class experiment. Professor Henry Higgins wagers that, by changing Eliza Doolittle’s speech and manners, he can pass her off in high society as a duchess. As lessons in pronunciation turn into a strict campaign to remake how she talks, walks, and carries herself, Eliza moves through drawing rooms that would once have shut her out. But the bet that begins as a game exposes the class rules beneath every conversation, and the more polished Eliza becomes, the harder it is to treat her as a mere project. Leslie Howard and Wendy Hiller lead Shaw’s sharp battle of pride, language, and independence.
