The Taking of Pelham One Two Three
ActionAdventureCrimeThriller104 min
A New York City subway car is seized by four armed men, who hold its passengers for ransom while the city scrambles to work out how they plan to escape. Walter Matthau is the harried official pulled into the negotiations above ground, while Robert Shaw’s cold, controlled ringleader runs the standoff below. As police, transit workers, and the mayor’s office converge on the crisis, the film moves between cramped tunnel suspense and the mechanics of a city trying to answer a hijacking one phone call at a time.
