A paroled woman tries to start over in the city under the strict eye of the parole officer assigned to her case. Their careful, professional arrangement shifts into something riskier as attraction grows between them, putting his job, her freedom, and both of their judgment under strain. Patricia Knight is the ex-con determined to leave her past behind, but the world she came from does not let go easily. When an old criminal tie resurfaces and pressure closes in from every side, the affair turns into a trap of secrecy, divided loyalties, and increasingly dangerous choices. Directed by Douglas Sirk, the story keeps tightening as love and law pull in opposite directions.
