The Truth

CrimeDramaRomance130 min

Dominique Marceau stands trial for the murder of her lover, and the case becomes a reconstruction of the life that brought her there. Brigitte Bardot is Dominique, a young woman who leaves provincial life for Paris and finds herself judged as much for her behavior as for the crime itself. Through witness testimony, cross-examination, and flashbacks, Sami Frey’s Gilbert Tellier comes into view in fragments, along with the affair at the center of the case. The courtroom proceedings keep returning to questions of desire, reputation, and how much of a relationship can be pieced together from other people’s accounts.
