In 1959 Paris, an aging American saxophonist living in exile forms an unexpected bond with a broke young Frenchman who first hears him from outside a jazz club. Dexter Gordon is Dale Turner, a gifted but ailing tenor player still capable of stopping a room cold. Francois Cluzet is the admirer who slips into Dale’s orbit and becomes part friend, part caretaker as the musician moves through the city’s clubs, apartments, and long nights. The film stays close to the rhythms of performance and decline, with Paris serving as both refuge and holding pattern for a man trying to keep playing.
