Jean Gabin is Henri, “the Man from Nantes,” a veteran criminal who returns to 1950s Paris after working in the United States for drug boss Liski. With his reputation preceding him, Henri is sent to find out why the French operation is losing money and merchandise, and before long he has his hands on every part of the network. Marcel Dalio’s Liski gives him room to tighten the organization, while Roger (Lino Ventura) and another hired gun are assigned when unreliable dealers need harsher handling. As Henri remakes the trafficking chain from the inside, the police keep close watch on every move.
