French Cancan

ComedyDramaMusicalRomance102 min

In 19th-century Paris, Danglard is a shrewd impresario chasing a new idea: open the Moulin Rouge and turn the cancan into the city’s next obsession. Jean Gabin is Danglard, moving through the theater world with a showman’s charm and calculation, while Françoise Arnoul’s Nini, a laundress with no stage polish, becomes central to his plans. María Félix is the celebrated belly dancer who complicates his private life as the production takes shape. Jean Renoir fills the backstage scramble, rehearsals, and cabaret world with color, music, and a bustling picture of Paris nightlife.
