After a motorcycle crash, Rose undergoes emergency experimental surgery and wakes with an altered body and a new hunger for blood. Marilyn Chambers is Rose, a young woman whose feedings leave victims infected, as the sickness spreads from the Quebec countryside into a panicked Montreal. Frank Moore's Hart, her boyfriend, tries to find her while doctors and police scramble to understand an outbreak that turns ordinary people violently rabid. Written and directed by David Cronenberg, the film moves from private medical horror to citywide contagion, with quarantine measures, street panic, and martial law closing in.
