Ever After: A Cinderella Story

After her father’s death leaves her a servant in her own house, Danielle grows up under the rule of a stepmother determined to advance her own daughters at court in 16th-century France. Drew Barrymore is Danielle, a sharp, self-possessed take on Cinderella whose path crosses with Prince Henry when he mistakes her for a noblewoman. Anjelica Huston’s Rodmilla runs the household with calculation, while Danielle moves through the story with wit, defiance, and a mind of her own. The fairy tale gets recast as a period romance of court politics, class barriers, and chance encounters, with Leonardo da Vinci at the edge of the frame.
