Kings of the Road
Drama176 min
Rüdiger Vogler is Bruno Winter, an itinerant projection-equipment repairman who crisscrosses the western edge of East Germany in a truck, fixing projectors in worn rural movie theaters. After Bruno pulls Robert Lander (Hanns Zischler) from a botched attempt to drive his car into a river, the two men keep traveling together, stopping in small towns and cinemas as they circle around breakups, loneliness, and the trouble of saying what they mean. The road, the border country, and the fading theaters give the film its shape as much as the uneasy friendship at its center.
