A factory worker is wrongly blamed for a deadly act of sabotage and goes on the run to clear his name. As police close in, he tries to track down the men who set him up, following a trail that leads from wartime industry into a hidden network working against the country from within. Along the way, he forces a skeptical stranger into his flight, and the chase keeps shifting between manhunt and spy hunt as allies prove uncertain and danger turns up in ordinary places. Robert Cummings is at the center of the fugitive search, with Priscilla Lane caught up in a case that keeps widening as he gets closer to the people behind it.
