The Working Class Goes to Heaven
Drama125 min
After losing a finger in a factory accident, an Italian worker is knocked out of his routine and pulled toward labor politics. Gian Maria Volonté is the man at the center, a machine-floor standout whose value has been tied to speed, output, and endurance. As the injury disrupts both his work and his sense of himself, he finds himself caught between management, union organizing, and more radical political groups. The film stays close to the clang of the factory, the strain of working-class life, and the arguments that build around one man’s sudden break from the system that shaped him.
