Boxer Joe Pendleton dies on the way to his next fight because a rookie heavenly messenger takes him too soon. Robert Montgomery is Joe, who learns his old body has already been cremated, leaving Claude Rains’s Mr. Jordan to send him back to Earth in the body of wealthy financier Bruce Farnsworth. Joe tries to live by his own straightforward code inside a stranger’s privileged life, where a murder plot, a suspicious household, and a new romance keep complicating the celestial fix.
