The Man Who Came to Dinner
ComedyRomance112 min
Monty Woolley is Sheridan Whiteside, an acerbic critic whose fall on the ice during an Ohio lecture tour leaves him confined to a Midwestern family’s home. He doesn’t recover quietly: from his sickbed, Whiteside takes over the house, issuing orders, receiving an endless stream of visitors, and interfering in the family’s romances and routines. Bette Davis is his unflappable secretary, trying to keep his demands from turning the household completely upside down. The comedy comes fast, with barbed dialogue and a houseguest who treats convalescence like a reign.
