Stage Door

ComedyDramaRomance92 min

In a New York boarding house packed with young actresses, ambition and rent money share the same cramped rooms. The women trade wisecracks, rivalries, and hard-earned advice as they chase stage work and wait for a break that may never come. Into the house comes a privileged newcomer, played by Katharine Hepburn, whose money and manners set her apart from women who know the business can be cruel. Ginger Rogers is one of the sharper, tougher residents, and the friction between dreamers, strivers, and survivors keeps the house in motion. As auditions fail and hopes rise again, friendships form under the pressure of competition and the uneven chances of life in the theater.
