Judy Garland is Susan Bradley, headed west by train to marry a man she’s never met when she falls in with a lively group of young women bound for a new Harvey House restaurant in 1880s New Mexico. At a rough railroad stop, their neat dining room and strict rules collide with the town’s rowdier social center, a saloon run by Angela Lansbury’s Em. The story turns the arrival of the Harvey Girls into a frontier culture clash, with romance, comic side characters, and big musical numbers woven through the bustle of trains, waitresses, and dance-hall rivalry.
