Broadway Melody of 1940

ComedyMusicalRomance102 min

Two longtime dance partners are chasing a Broadway break when a producer’s mistake throws their act off balance. One of the men is hired for a big new show, while the other is left behind and scrambling to keep up appearances as resentment and romantic confusion start to build. As rehearsals move forward, the mix-up tangles friendships, careers, and a budding romance, pushing the pair toward a showdown on and off the stage. Fred Astaire and Eleanor Powell lead a backstage story built around auditions, misunderstandings, and show-stopping dance numbers, with Cole Porter songs including “Begin the Beguine” woven into the production.
