Faust
DramaFantasyHorror107 min
When a plague sweeps through his town, a devout scholar is drawn into a wager between God and Satan and turns to dark forces for the cure he cannot find through prayer or science. Gösta Ekman is Faust, an aging alchemist whose desperation opens the door to a bargain with Mephisto; Emil Jannings gives the devil a looming, theatrical presence as he spreads disease and temptation across the city. Camilla Horn's Gretchen enters the story as Faust's pact begins to reshape his life, in F.W. Murnau's silent German adaptation of the legend, filled with apocalyptic imagery, shadowy supernatural effects, and stark visions of sin and salvation.
