In Parma, a restless young man is pulled between politics, family, and desire as adulthood closes in. Francesco Barilli is Fabrizio, an idealistic student shaped by his Marxist mentor Cesare and engaged to the bourgeois Clelia when a friend's death throws him further off balance. Then his connection with his older aunt shifts into intimate, unstable territory. Adriana Asti's Gina is impulsive, seductive, and difficult for Fabrizio to understand, even as he keeps returning to her. Around them, debates about class, tradition, and Italy's future turn their private confusion into a portrait of youth caught between conviction and compromise.
