Smile and Peco grow up as opposites bound by the same game: after the brash Peco chases off the kids bullying Smile, he teaches his new friend ping-pong, and their bond carries into high school competition. Yosuke Kubozuka's Peco charges through life and matches with swagger, while Arata Iura is Smile, a withdrawn player whose talent surfaces in quieter ways. As school tournaments bring in demanding mentors and a string of rivals, the story follows the two friends through shifting ambitions, pressure, and the different ideas each player brings to the table.
