ActionComedyDramaRomance127 min

In Edo-period Japan, a young samurai arrives in a poor row-house district with one clear duty: avenge his father by killing the man responsible. He rents a room, waits for news of his target, and tries to live among laborers, widows, and children whose daily worries have little to do with warrior codes. As he grows attached to the neighborhood, the revenge he has been raised to pursue starts to look less simple and less noble. Small disputes, comic misunderstandings, and the hard economics of the district keep pulling him away from the clean duel he imagined, forcing him to choose between inherited honor and the life unfolding around him.
