CrimeDramaMysteryRomanceThriller119 min
In lower Manhattan, writing professor Frannie Avery (Meg Ryan) becomes entangled in a murder investigation after a young woman in her neighborhood turns up dead. The detective on the case, Mark Ruffalo’s rough-edged investigator, questions Frannie and soon draws her into an affair that blurs attraction with suspicion. As the case moves through the streets and apartments around her, Frannie’s private obsessions and growing unease begin to shape what she notices — and what she fears. Jane Campion directs with a close focus on language, desire, and the uneasy intimacy of a city where strangers keep crossing paths.
