On a rainy night in 1946 London, novelist Maurice Bendrix runs into Henry Miles, the husband of the woman who abruptly ended Maurice’s affair two years earlier. Ralph Fiennes is Maurice, still fixated on Sarah Miles; Julianne Moore’s Sarah hangs over every encounter as his jealousy flares up again. When Henry confides his own suspicions, Maurice arranges to have Sarah followed, pulling the old triangle back into motion. Moving between postwar London and the Blitz-shadowed years of the affair, the film frames desire and betrayal through Maurice’s obsessive search for the reason Sarah left.
