The Cooler
DramaRomance101 min
Bernie Lootz is a Las Vegas casino’s secret weapon: a beaten-down employee whose bad luck seems to spread to anyone nearby, cooling off lucky gamblers the moment he hits the floor. William H. Macy gives Bernie a worn, apologetic presence, while Alec Baldwin’s casino boss Shelly Kaplow treats him like a piece of house equipment. When Bernie begins seeing Natalie (Maria Bello), a waitress who brings some unexpected warmth into his life, his curse starts to shift in ways the casino can’t ignore. Against the neon and smoke of old-school Vegas, the story turns on superstition, romance, and the pressure of staying useful to dangerous people.
