The Day the Earth Stood Still
DramaSci-FiThriller92 min
When a flying saucer lands in Washington, D.C., an alien visitor arrives with a warning for a planet entering the nuclear age: stop warring or face destruction. Michael Rennie is Klaatu, a calm emissary whose message is met with fear, while Lock Martin towers beside him as the silent robot Gort. After violence greets the landing, Klaatu slips away from military control and moves through ordinary American life, trying to find someone who will listen before governments turn the encounter into a standoff. Robert Wise keeps the sci-fi premise tied to Cold War panic, public suspicion, and a plea for peace aimed at all of humanity.
