Places in the Heart

Drama111 min

In 1930s Texas, after her husband is killed, a mother is left with debts, children to raise, and a farm that may not survive the Depression. She refuses to give it up and starts looking for any way to keep the land producing, even as banks, prices, and local prejudice close in. With help from a Black drifter, played by Danny Glover, and a blind boarder, she tries to bring in a cotton crop and hold her household together. As the season wears on, every part of the plan gets harder: money runs short, neighbors judge, and the work itself threatens to break the people depending on it.
