A Soldier's Story

CrimeDramaMysteryWar101 min

Near the end of World War II, Captain Davenport is sent from Washington to a Louisiana Army base after Master Sergeant Waters is found shot dead just outside camp. Howard E. Rollins Jr. is Davenport, a Black military lawyer trying to get answers from hostile white officers, fearful Black soldiers, and a chain of command determined to close ranks. In flashbacks, Sergeant Waters (Adolph Caesar) emerges as a hard, divisive presence inside the segregated regiment, turning the case into a confrontation with racism, resentment, and the damage already done long before the shooting.
