The Natural
Drama138 min
An unknown, middle-aged batter named Roy Hobbs arrives in the 1930s as a rookie for the struggling New York Knights, carrying a lightning-strike bat and a past he doesn’t explain. Robert Redford is Hobbs, a gifted hitter whose sudden arrival starts changing the team’s fortunes just as old secrets, gambling interests, and front-office scheming close in around him. Sportswriter Max Mercy (Robert Duvall), who remembers Roy from years earlier, watches the comeback with suspicion. As the pennant race tightens, baseball myth, scandal, and Roy’s unfinished history all crowd onto the same field.
