Prick Up Your Ears
Drama111 min
1960s London frames the volatile relationship between playwright Joe Orton and Kenneth Halliwell, who meet at drama school, become lovers, and start out as artistic allies. Gary Oldman is Orton, young, witty, and increasingly visible as his writing takes off; Alfred Molina’s Halliwell is older, more private, and left stranded as Joe grows surer of his sexuality and his public life. Moving between their cramped Islington flat and the literary circles around them, the film follows a partnership turning tense with jealousy, dependence, and competition.
