In postwar Sicily, a smooth-talking stranger arrives in village squares with a camera, a stack of forms, and a promise: he can discover ordinary people and turn them into movie stars. Men, women, and children line up to perform their hopes for him, each audition carrying a piece of hunger, vanity, or desperation. As he moves from town to town, the scheme gathers money and trust, and the faces before his lens reveal a country still marked by poverty and war. Sergio Castellitto plays the man at the center of the fraud, whose search for easy profit keeps colliding with the lives he stirs up and the damage left behind.
