Oedipus Rex

Drama104 min

A jealous father marks his infant son for death, and the story slips from pre-war Italy into antiquity as that child grows up to become Oedipus. Franco Citti is the young man, rescued in infancy and raised in Corinth before an oracle tells him he is fated to kill his father and marry his mother. With Silvana Mangano in the maternal role at the center of the myth, the film follows Oedipus across desert landscapes, royal courts, and the tightening path of a destiny he is trying to outrun.
