Grave of the Fireflies
AnimationAnimeDramaWar89 min
In bombed-out Kobe during the final months of World War II, 14-year-old Seita is left to care for his little sister after an air raid kills their mother. Cut off from stable family support and pushed out after tensions with their aunt, the siblings end up in an abandoned shelter, living on dwindling rations and whatever Seita can find. Tsutomu Tatsumi is Seita, trying to stay ahead of hunger and displacement, while Ayano Shiraishi’s Setsuko is still young enough to cling to candy, fireflies, and scraps of ordinary routine as the war closes in around them.
