After Jonathan Harker attacks Dracula at his castle, the Count leaves Transylvania for a nearby city and begins preying on the family of Harker’s fiancée. Christopher Lee’s Dracula is a looming, predatory presence, while Peter Cushing is Dr. van Helsing, Harker’s friend and a scholar of vampires who takes up the hunt. Terence Fisher’s 1958 retelling of Bram Stoker narrows the story to a deadly pursuit, moving from castle interiors to curtained bedrooms and candlelit parlors as Van Helsing tries to stop the spread of Dracula’s influence.
