À Nous la Liberté
ComedyMusical104 min
Escaped convict Louis reinvents himself as a factory boss, trading prison walls for assembly lines and mechanical order. Henri Marchand’s Louis rises into the business world by embracing modern industry, but when his former jailmate Émile (Raymond Cordy) reappears, the life he has constructed starts to look a lot less secure. René Clair’s 1931 French film moves between comedy, song, and social satire, linking the routines of prison to the rhythms of factory work. The result is a sharp portrait of friendship, ambition, and a world increasingly run by machines.
