DramaRomance91 min
At her stepfather’s traveling circus, Elvira Madigan meets Sixten Sparre, a married Swedish officer, and the two decide to run away together. Pia Degermark is Elvira, the Danish slackrope dancer performing under a stage name, while Thommy Berggren’s Sparre leaves behind both his family and his military post. As they try to build a life outside the world they’ve abandoned, his desertion from the army leaves him unable to find work, and their romance is pressed by money, status, and the limits of escape.
