24 Hour Party People

ComedyDocumentaryDrama117 min

Manchester, 1976: frustrated TV reporter Tony Wilson sees the Sex Pistols and spots an opening in a city about to change. Steve Coogan is Wilson, moving from local news into punk promotion as he pushes his station to air the band, draws Manchester’s new groups into his orbit, and helps build Factory Records and the Hacienda. The story follows that scene from the first punk jolt into the rise of Madchester, with Wilson and his friends turning gigs, club nights, and label deals into a messy, fast-moving portrait of a music culture remaking the city.
