The Towering Inferno

ActionAdventureDramaThriller165 min

Paul Newman's architect Doug Roberts arrives at the opening party for a new skyscraper already worried that corners were cut in its construction. When a fire breaks out and starts racing upward through the tower, Steve McQueen is Fire Chief Michael O'Hallorhan, coordinating a rescue as hundreds of guests are stranded high above the city. The film splits its attention between the men trying to contain the disaster and the people trapped inside, with William Holden, Faye Dunaway, Fred Astaire, and Jennifer Jones among the faces caught in the building as smoke, heat, blocked exits, and failing systems turn the celebration into a crisis.
