Naíma Sentíes is Sol, a seven-year-old moving through her grandfather’s crowded house as the family prepares a birthday celebration for her father, Tona. In the kitchen, on the patio, and behind closed doors, her mother, aunts, and other relatives race through errands, decorations, food, and last-minute tensions while Sol drifts between adults, pets, and whispered conversations she only partly understands. As the day wears on, what should be a surprise party takes on a more complicated meaning, and the bustle around her begins to show why everyone is holding so tightly to this gathering. Montserrat Marañon is part of the packed family ensemble.
