Smoke
ComedyDrama112 min
After a stranger saves writer Paul Benjamin from a bus outside a Brooklyn smoke shop, Paul finds himself drawn into the lives orbiting the store’s owner, Auggie Wren. William Hurt is Paul, still reeling from his wife’s murder, while Harvey Keitel’s Auggie runs the corner shop like a neighborhood crossroads. When Paul gives Rashid Cole a temporary place to stay, Rashid’s search for his estranged father starts to intersect with Auggie’s own family questions. Wayne Wang and Paul Auster build the film out of small encounters, street-corner conversations, and the overlapping routines of people who keep finding their way back to Auggie’s counter.
