Peter Ustinov is Hercule Poirot, taking a holiday aboard a luxurious Nile steamer when the murder of a newlywed heiress turns the trip into a case. As the boat moves through 1930s Egypt, Poirot questions a gallery of wealthy passengers, and every one of them becomes a suspect. Mia Farrow and Maggie Smith are part of the ensemble circling the investigation, with riverfront landmarks, formal dinners, and close quarters giving the mystery a polished, claustrophobic shape.
