The Day of the Jackal

ActionAdventureCrimeDramaThriller143 min

After repeated attempts on Charles de Gaulle fail, a group of French generals hires a contract killer known only as the Jackal. Edward Fox is the elusive assassin, moving through 1963 France under shifting identities and careful disguises, while Michel Lonsdale's Commissaire Lebel pieces together the outline of a man nobody can quite name. Fred Zinnemann's film follows both the planning of the assassination and the tightening police search, drawing tension from forged papers, border crossings, official channels, and the exacting routines of a professional determined to remain invisible.
