The Man Who Would Be King
ActionAdventureDramaWar129 min
In late-19th-century British India, two ex-soldiers strike out for the remote land of Kafiristan, chasing gold, power, and a life bigger than soldiering under the Empire. Sean Connery is Daniel Dravot, the more audacious of the pair, while Michael Caine’s Peachy Carnehan follows him into a plan built on nerve, firepower, and improvisation. Once there, their victories in battle and a chain of misunderstandings turn them from wandering fortune-seekers into rulers, with Dravot taken for something more than mortal. Christopher Plummer’s Rudyard Kipling frames John Huston’s tale of ambition, empire, and a deception that grows larger than its creators.
