In 1984, as the miners’ strike drags on under Margaret Thatcher, a London group of gay and lesbian activists decides to raise money for the National Union of Mineworkers—then discovers the union is uneasy about taking their help. Ben Schnetzer is one of the young organizers driving the effort, and Bill Nighy appears on the Welsh side of a wary first meeting when the group travels to a small mining village in person. Inspired by a true story, the film follows the awkward introductions, political friction, and unexpected connections that grow between two communities linked by the strike.
