Composer Sigmund Romberg fights to bring operetta to Broadway in this biography built around the career behind The Student Prince, The Desert Song, and The New Moon. José Ferrer is Romberg, following the composer through his rise in American musical theater as his ambitions pull him toward bigger stages and more prestigious work. Merle Oberon appears as Dorothy Donnelly, the actress, writer, producer, and director who became an important figure in his professional life, while Helen Traubel joins the cast in a featured supporting role.
